Work Record 7
Preparations:
In this shoot I will be going back to showing a destructive world through enviromenal damage of rubbish. This time, instead of a seside, i will be walking around a urban town of Harlow, known for rubbish, desruption and homeless people. This hopefully means i will be able to show how destructive a 'family friendly' place can be.Artist Research:
Eduardo Leal:
Eduardo Leal is a Portuguese documentary photographer focusing mainly on South East Asia. Previously he worked for several years in South America. Currently based in Macau S. A. R., China.

Images That Need Improving:
These two photos are my least effective photos that need improving. This is because, for the first image, I didnt have time to change lenses so i couldnt zoom far enough to capture the bag floating in the air. However, if i had my different lens on, i think this could have been very effective as it could show how rubbish doesnt just stay of the floor and affect humans. It also goes into the sky, in which birds could fly into and get stuck etc. For the second Image, i wanted to capture how ridiculous it was for rubbish to be on the floor, right next to a bin. But i couldnt get the right angle, making the photo look boring.
Editing& AO2:
I wasn't sure how i wanted to edit my images. By photographer from my research stayed in colour, however i wasnt sure if that would look effective. Instead I used a similar effect to my shoot 2, where i made the rubbish the main focus. To do this i made the rest of the image black and white but kept the rubbish in colour. I then went on to change the contrast, curves and saturation of the images to make them look more harsh.Settings of my best images:

A03:Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress.
I think my shoot went well and reflected my idea of a dustructive world through environmental damage. My Research of Edaurdo Leal was helpful in my work as it gave me the idea to take the image of the rubbsih excatly how i found in, to look mor real. The images came out as I expected, however when i went out to take photographers, there were volenteers picking up rubbish so it was hard to get many images. I wanted my photos to show a miserable world in a way that will effect the audience in a emotional way. I think my images have portrayed this in many ways.
A01:Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.
I dont believe that my artist research is really shown throughout my images. I think my images are very different, they are more bright and staurated and there is different rubbish. I think my research of other waste photographers- Like Chris Pickham in shoot 2- have helped by though, as it inspired me to how i wanted my photos to turn out. AO4: Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.
I believe that I have produced a strong series of images inspired by my research of environmental damage and the images of Edaurdo Leal and Chris Pickham. The final images I have edited present a destructive world in different ways. The use of rubbish highlights the simple actions of leaving rubbish left around
can affect the enviroment and also make a place that should be pretty, look unpleasent and uncared for.

Mid-Project Evaluation:
Mid-Project Evaluation:
Dicuss what you intended to do as part of the project, has the idea changed? At the start of my project I made a mind map to figure out what I intended to do. I pinponted the types of shoots I wanted to do. This included presenting climate change and global warming and environmental damage. Intentionally I was just going to do Climate change. However, overtime I decided to focus more on a destructive world and also look at how conflict effects the world in multiple ways and leaves unplesant land.
What shoots were most successful?
I think my most successful shoots so far are my chimney shoot of Work record 1 and the Prisoner of camp in work record 6. I think I have produced strong pictures that highlight how we live in a destructive world. Shoot 1 is successful as it was a experiment in a different type of photography for me and was a more effective look. It took a lot of research but i then created a filter that highlighted excatly what i wanted to. Shoot 6 on the other hand, was the normal type of photography i am used to, standard landscape photography. This shoot was successful as it created a miserable and dark atmosphere.
What aspect of the work requires improvement?
I think the aspect of my work that need improving is my experimental editing. I have experimented quite a bit with my photos, distorting and adding filters. However, I would like to see how far I could go with this.

Work Record 6
Preparation:
Leading on from my last shoot, I wanted to show another example of how we have a destructive world and conflict destroys the world, even many years on. To do this is will like to shoot the remains of a prisoner of war camp in Hatfield heath. This camp is broken down and is unpleasent to look at. There has been many arguments on whether it should be knocked down and built on but many people do not want to touch it due to the history behind it. This highlightd how conflict is permenant in lives and can change the future but it important to remember in order to not repeat.Research:
Eadweard Muybridge:
Eadweard Muybridge was an English-American photographer important for his pioneering work in photographic studies of motion, and early work in motion-picture projection. He adopted the first name Eadweard as the original Anglo-Saxon form of Edward, and the surname Muybridge, believing it to be similarly archaic. In 1874 Muybridge shot and killed Major Harry Larkyns, his wife's lover, but was acquitted in a jury trial on the grounds of justifiable homicide.I like Muybride's photos because they show the destruction war has left and the ruins of a once beautiful place. This photos make the viewer quite emotional as the dark tones and little colour presents a dark time and a horrible event. From this research I have found that i would like to edit my photos in a black and white effect to create more tension.

Images that need improving:
When I turned up at the camp I found that there was a fence put all aound it and a sign for trespassing, so I had to figure out a way to get the fence out of the way. The first photo is the first attempt to take a photo, but it had the fence in focus so cant be used. I then went on to put the lense closer to the fence and my camera auto focused the fence out to make the photos look clear. The next two photos are when i stood on a fence to try to get a higher view. However, I didnt have a tripod so my photos were shaky.
Editing &AO2:
One aspect of my photos i wanted to improve through my edit would be the tones in my images. My photos weren't miserable looking enough, to make this better I will edit my photos into black and white and use tonal ranges like Muybridge uses. I also went on to edit my photos but editing the curves and levels to add more depth and contrast.

A03:Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress.
I think my shoot went well and reflected my idea of a destructive world very well. My research of Eadweard Muybridge was helpful in my work as I edited my photos in order to give the same miserable and olden effect that he used. The images came out as I expected, however I wish I was able to get closer to get more detailed pictures- which i couldn't do due to trespassing. I wanted my photos to show how war can damage and make land look unpleasant even years later, to convey how ugly damaged buildings are replacing a once beautiful landscape. They way the bulidings are damaged highlight the horrible conflict that happened there. The materials used are also damaging to the earth. I think my images have portrayed this in many ways.
A01:Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.
I hope my artist research is shown throughout my images, with similarities of olden buildings. However, the effect is a bit different due to not being taken on film. I think my research of abandoned and broken buildings help me also as it meant I was able to find the camp. It also helped as I knew how other photographers took photos of derelict places and was able to figure out the image I wanted to create.AO4: Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.
I believe that I have produced a strong series of images inspired by my research of a destructive world and the images of Edward Muybridge. The final images I have edited present a destructive world in different ways. The use of materials in the camp are destructive to the world and the camp itself show how the world in the past has been destructive and had conflict.
